Vigilance Publishers often put "special issue" markings on HOVERBOY covers, attempting to boost sales. "Special Halloween Issue", "Hanukkah Laugh Spectacular!", "Double-Size Arbor Day Issue!", and various claims of free coupons inside often graced the cover; while inside was the same monthly dose of pre-Comics Code Hoverboy-fighting-ghouls stories.

The publishers were sued repeatedly. The magazine was finally canceled when Vigilance Publishing closed it's doors in 1953, allegedly due to shady financing...
