FICTIONAL SCIENCE ADVENTURE
"NAZI ROBOTS OF FUTURES PAST"
August, 1938
Before
his appearance in comics, Hoverboy co-creator C.L. Nutt penned several
pulp stories featuring "The Hover Boy"; a thinly veiled
amalgamation of Edgar Rice Burrough's John Carter- Warlord of Mars,
and The Man of Bronze: Doc Savage! The Hover-Boy's alter ego was Harlan
Ross, an young inventor and private detective, who solved a majority
of his cases by zapping suspects with his "electric ray"...
"The Hover-Boy" stories were usually buried somewhere in
the back of Fictional Science Adventure Magazine; this issue sees
a rare cover appearance.
In "Nazi Robots of Futures Past", the Hover Boy finds himself
battling rocket ships and Nazi robots from an alternate future dimension,
who have traveled through time in order to help the Third Reich Nazis
win World War II. Hoping to win Harlan over, the robots spirit him
away to their future, which is disturbingly depicted by Nutt as a
utopia! Reading this story, one wonders whether speculation of Nutt
as a Nazi sympathizer were true... |
